Haring Ibon/Birds in Focus, Inc., in cooperation with Sony Philippines, Canon Marketing Philippines, HP Philippines, Acer Philippines, and Xionz Technology, Inc. invites everyone to join the Haring Ibon Photography Contest in celebration of Philippine Eagle Week on June 4-10, 2020. This event is also a fitting tribute and recognition of the National Bird of the Philippines which has become a symbol of the Filipino’s Bravery and strength.

This contest aims to encourage everyone to highlight the Great Philippine Eagle through photographs. Entries should be able to capture the Kingly, Majestic, Proud, Fierce, and Brave nature and character of the Haring Ibon.

Haring Ibon Photography Contest MECHANICS

1. Terms

Submission of entries for the Haring Ibon Photography Contest is from June 1-21, 2020. Entries may be must be received by 11:59 PM Philippine Time (PHT) on June 21, 2020 at the latest.

Announcement of winners will be on June 30, 2020.

There is no limitation as to the period the photograph was/is taken. Old and new images are welcome.

To ensure the ethical practice of bird photography, all participating photographers are expected to have strictly adhered to the Biodiversity Management Bureau’s (BMB) Birding Guidelines in the Philippines (DENR-BMB Technical Bulletin 2017-02) which can be accessed through this link: http://www.bmb.gov.ph/index.php/e-library/laws-and-policies/technical-bulletins/technical-bulletin-2017. Any confirmed reports of violation of the aforementioned guidelines will result in disqualification from the contest and shall be reported to the BMB.

2. Participants Categories

The contest is open to all individuals aged 12 to 90 years old at the time of his/her submission of entry. Contestants below 18 years old should secure and present a verified parental consent as set forth herein prior to submission of his/her entry.

Participants will be grouped into the following categories:

A. Philippine Eagle in the Wild

Youth/Student Category Code: PEW1 Adult Category Code: PEW2
  • This category is for youth/students 18 years old and below.
  • This category is for participants 19 years old and above.
  • All photos of the Philippine Eagle must be taken in its natural habitat.
  • Entries should be able to capture the Kingly, Majestic, Proud, Fierce, and Brave nature and character of the Haring Ibon.
  • Photographs that include, depict, or suggest negative themes such as chains, cages, injuries, death, pity, and the like are disqualified.
  • Photographs must adhere to the natural history approach – only minor changes are allowed.

B. Philippine Eagle in Captivity

Youth/Student Category Code: PEC1 Adult Category Code: PEC2
  • This category is for youth/students 18 years old and below.
  • This category is for participants 19 years old and above.
  • All captive photos of the Philippine Eagle shall be limited to those taken in the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao, the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife in Quezon City, and the Jurong Bird Park in Singapore.
  • Entries should be able to capture the Kingly, Majestic, Proud, Fierce, and Brave nature and character of the Haring Ibon.
  • Photographs that include, depict, or suggest negative themes such as chains, cages, injuries, death, pity, and the like are disqualified.
  • Photographs may adhere to digital arts approach using natural history photographs.

3. Submission of Entries

Entries for the Haring Ibong Photography Contest should be emailed to: contest@haringibon.com with the subject heading: CODEENTRY#-name of participant (Example: PEW1-ENTRY#1-Juan dela Cruz)

  • A maximum of FIVE (5) entries per person is allowed.
  • Entries must be sent via email in JPEG format, 300 dpi, at exactly 2048 pixels at the longest side. Noncomplying photos as to specs and size will be disqualified.
  • Each entry must have a title, and the same is reflected in the image’s file in the following manner: CODE_title.jpg where. Here are some examples:

  • Each email entry must contain all the following details to qualify:
Youth/Student Category Code: (PEW1 & PEC1) Adult Category Code: (PEW2 & PEC2)
  • Verified parental consent
  • Complete Name of Entrant
  • Age, Grade Level, and School Name (if entrants are students)
  • Title of Photograph
  • Location
  • Shooting Details
  • Short write-up about photograph (100 words maximum)
  • Short Profile of Entrant (100 words)
  • Complete Name of Entrant

When required, the entrant must provide all appropriate clearances, permissions and releases for the entry in an appropriate form as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion (in the event a participant cannot provide what is required, the Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify the non-compliant entrant, or require the entrant to secure what is required within a period set forth, or allow the applicable entry to remain in the competition).

Any entry that, in the Sponsor’s good faith and judgment, violates the Submission Requirements may be disqualified. Entries must be received within the deadline set forth herein or as otherwise stated on the Sponsor’s sites or posts. The email’s database clock will be the official time keeper for this contest.

4. Judging

The judging panel will evaluate all qualified entries based on the following criteria:

  • IMPACT AND CREATIVITY – 50% (focus on the Kingly, Majestic, Proud, Fierce, and Brave nature and character of the Haring Ibon)
  • PHOTOGRAPHIC QUALITY – 50%

In the event of a tie, the entry with the highest “Impact and Creativity” score will be deemed the winner. If there is a tie again, the highest “Photographic Quality” score will be deemed the winner. If after there is still a tie, both entries will be re-judged by the Judging Panel based on the same criteria outlined above. Decisions of the Judging Panel are final cannot be appealed.

Finalists shall be required to submit the RAW files for verification of authenticity and ownership.

5. Witness

Winners of the Haring Ibon Photography Contest will be notified on June 30, 2020. Winners, finalists, and selected entries may be featured on the Haring Ibon Website and Online Gallery and social media pages.

Winning photographs, finalists, and selected entries may also be featured in Haring Ibon Merchandise.

6. Entrant Licenses/Releases

By entering the Competition, all entrants (and their respective parents and legal guardians) grant a royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive license to Haring Ibon/Birds in Focus as the Authorized Party, to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entry (along with a name credit.)

Display or publication of any entry on an Authorized Party’s website does not indicate the entrant will be selected as a winner. The Authorized Party will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use.

Entrants (and their respective parents and legal guardians) hereby give their consent to the Authorized Party to perform or not perform any act that would otherwise infringe the entrant’s “moral rights” in their entries.

The Authorized Party will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such use.

The Authorized Party shall have the right to edit, composite, morph, scan, duplicate, or alter the entry for any purpose which the Authorized Party deems necessary or desirable. The Authorized Party shall have the right to freely assign its rights hereunder, in whole or in part, to any person or entity. The Authorized Party shall retain the rights granted in each entry even if the entry is disqualified or fails to meet the Submission Requirements or even it if it has determined that the entrant is ineligible to enter the Competition or win a prize.

Copyright remains with the photographers but Haring Ibon/Birds in Focus, Inc. has non-exclusive perpetual license to use the photographs in whatever manner permitted by law. In the case of commercial use, the photographer shall be given 10% of net income.
